From Hamamatsu to the World
Suzuki Motor Corporation traces its roots back to 1909, when founder Michio Suzuki established the Suzuki Loom Works in the coastal town of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan — a city that remains the company's global headquarters to this day.
For the first three decades, Suzuki focused entirely on producing high-quality weaving looms for Japan's silk and cotton industries. Michio Suzuki was a visionary craftsman, always striving to build better and more user-friendly machinery.
After World War II, Japan had a great need for affordable and reliable personal transportation. In 1952, Suzuki responded with the Power Free — a motorized bicycle fitted with a 36cc two-stroke engine. It was simple, practical, and revolutionary for its time.
By 1954, the company was producing 6,000 motorcycles per month and officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. That same year, Suzuki launched the Colleda — its first true motorcycle.
Racing Heritage
In 1962, Suzuki achieved its first victory in Grand Prix motorcycle racing at the Isle of Man TT. Through the decades, Suzuki went on to win multiple Motocross World Championships and 500cc Grand Prix titles, cementing its reputation as a true performance brand.
